I'm wondering if some of you guys could give me a comparison between Access (2003) and whatever the latest version of MYSQL is. I have a client who's looking at setting up an asp interface, but we recently discovered that the server they are currently on only has support for Access and MYSQL. The Probelm is that I started writing for SQL Server. I assume it'll be easier to go from MSSQL to MYSQL, but would it be worth putting the effort into changing things for access....

I honestly have no idea when it comes to MYSQL...

In your situtation, I suggest MySQL. The latest MySQL sussports most MS SQL commands with a few differences. It is bascially a step up from Access.

You can get a better description of what MySQL is from http://www.mysql.com

There is a massive difference in the 2. Although Access can be used in web applications (I use it a lot), if you are not running any stored procedures, then you need to run MySQL for scalability. Access just isn't designed for a high connection environment.

Ummm -- not quite. You really need to research MySQL more before calling it a "step up from Access."WinkLOL
