Topic: Using File & Image upload Posted: 01 June 2005 at 3:54pm |
I'm sure this has an easy answer but I couldn't find it.
I've got the upload control working, it'll upload through the avatar feature but the files I have aren't the right size so they don't display but they are making it to the server. However, when I look at putting something into a post, I can't find a way to do it. Maybe I'm missing a button or something but I just don't see a way to do it. I've got the forum set to let registered users upload, and switched it to all users when I didn't find anything at first to see if that would make any difference but I still don't find a way to do it. Where do I find the feature to upload pictures and files?

In the admin panel. You need to create the upload directories first and make sure they have read/write/modify permissions set by your web host.

also confirm that all groups have permssions
as if you have disabllowed within the group permsions section you wont be able upload as they override the main forum ones.
then member permmsiions override the group permissions.

Ok I got the icons now.. but when I do the uploads, nothing happens in the window. The files are uploaded to the server, I've checked that. But I tried to put both an image and a file into a post, and nothing happened in the window after it uploaded.

do you get a 404 or 500 error mesage?
if you do get a 500 error message please post it here, also make sure http friendly error messages are turned off.
also try re uplaoding the files as they maybe corrupt.

Don't get any error messages it says the please be patient while uploading box. Hit ok on that and a moment later the upload box is back to the default. No file path anymore, the upload button is greyed out of course and when I check the server folder the file is in my username's upload folder. But nothing gets put into the post window. Oh and in case it makes any difference I'm using aspSmartUpload. I'm going to look into trying one of the others.

A quick follow up: I tried to look for one of the other free asp upload tools... they apparently aren't available anymore as the websites for them do not have them anywhere I can find. I'm also a poor college student at the moment so I can get either of the non-free versions. So I'm stuck with the aspSmartUpload, unless there's another one that should work that's not linked to in the admin section.
