mine was sent to me by a friend:

Quote If you're on a broadband or better connection, here is something that will really speed Firefox up:

1.Type "about:config" into the address bar and hit return. Scroll down and look for the following entries:
network.http.pipelining
network.http.proxy.pipelining
network.http.pipelining.maxrequests

Normally the browser will make one request to a web page at a time.
When you enable pipelining it will make several at once, which really speeds up page loading.

2. Alter the entries as follows:
Set "network.http.pipelining" to "true"
Set "network.http.proxy.pipelining" to "true"
Set "network.http.pipelining.maxrequests". This sets the max number of requests it will make at once. I set mint to 25

3. Lastly right-click anywhere and select New-> Integer. Name it "nglayout.initialpaint.delay" and set its value to "0".
This value is the amount of time the browser waits before it acts on information it receives. Depending on your connection you're pages will load MUCH faster now.

NOTE: Don't go nuts with the maxrequests parameter. If you set it too high some sites with routers set up for that sort of thing may regard it as a DOS attack and automatically ban your ip.

Definetly adblock

but I have mousegestures, spellbound, etc installed as well

and dypers i have been using that tweak for about 6 mounths and it works great.

You can also increase the maxrequests for IE using a registry tweak.

I know about the IE trick. Used to be an option but I guess some people found it to be to confusing - lol.

Any recommendations for a FF ftp extension?

MOUSE GESTURES

Definitely mouse gestures all the way. I end up trying to use them in IE when I must use IE. But holy moly - they make FF SOOOO much easier and faster to use.
