I did a search on the forum and I saw a few posts about where to edit the functions_send_mail.asp to enter in a username and password if the server requires authentication, but when I open the files they seem different than what other people posted.  I'm not sure if it's because it was an older version on the search I did.

I tried CDOSYS and when a user registers it returns as if the email would work, but nothing happens.  But I did a massive email to everybody while logged in as the admin and the email went out, yet when somebody registered no email is every sent.

Any help would be greatly appreciated
Thanks in advance

You need to set email confirmation in the admin section.

maybe I wasn't clear on my post.  I was in "Email Setup and Configuration" and I tried every option for "Email Component to use:" and the only one that seems not to show an error during registration is CDOSYS, but no email is every sent.  The server does require authentication as far as I'm aware, so I was going to use ASPEMAIL, but not sure where I enter into the username and password.
I'm sorry if My first post was kind of confusing, but what I meant was aftering doing some searching on the forum it seems you need to edit that functions_send_mail.asp and enter your username and password there for authenication, but I'm not sure what lines to change or what to do.

Thanks again

You're looking at the wrong thin in email configuration.
Your email is working or else you wouldn't be able to send the bulk mail to members.

If members are not geting an activation email, you have to look further down on the email configuration page and make sure the "Email Activation of Membership" is turned on.

You know now that I'm thinking about it, the only people who recieved email was people who were on the same server for their email.  I mean where I have the forum I think the email was only sent to people who were on the same server.
I've tried everything to get it to send to hotmail, gmail or anything else that's outside of the server.
I'm told it needs authentication, but like I posted before not a clue where to change this information.

Yes I've always had a checkmark on email activation of membership check on. And like I said I think those people who recieved the emails are on the same network/server/domain

Thanks for your replies

thanks for the reply.
Well I tried doing a mass email again and I tired yahoo email address, hotmail address and gmail and everything works except hotmail and that was the one I was trying out the most.

I did copy the functions_send_mail.asp from the admin folder funtion folder and replaced the one in the functions folder.  They were different sizes, but now it seems that the registeration is working for everything except hotmail.  If this is the case I noticed you guys disabled on your forum that nobody with hotmail or yahoo address could register.  How would I be able to do this also?

Thanks so much for all the help so far.
