Is it possible for two posts (or several posts) by different people from different locations to get the same IP address logged for them?

I have a thread on one of my forums where i am certain that 3 posters are different people/different physical locations however they all have the same IP address logged on their posts.

If they were using the same ISP could this cause this? What other reasons can there be??

VERY unlikely.... IP addresses are either fixed or dynamic, but each time a computer is connected it has a unique(ish) IP address the time that multiple users have the same IP address is when they are in one business...

Course could be wrong....

but the posts are definitely from different people and they are in different places (so not on the same network).

They may well be using the same isp but i think its unlikely that they would get the same IP's from the isp.

It couldn't be something to do with the forum could it?

You can have the same IP address as someone else on the net.

If you use a proxy server your IP address will be that of the proxy server so your IP address will be the same as everyone else using the proxy.

Also many broadband suppliers use a system called NAT which means that your IP address could will be the same for everyone else on that ISP.

There are also other reasons for having the same IP address as some else.
