I've uploaded the web forum to my newly opened brinkster account and everything seems to work fine ...but.... when I'm in the forum it seems to be always attempting to load the page, even thought it is completely loaded. In other words, I open the forum, it loads completely, and then I get an hour glass, and "Opening page http://www40.brinkster.com/XXXXX/forum" appears at the bottom of my IE browser. Sometimes its just sits there and attempts to load...other times it times out and I get an error. Anyone else have this issue? If so, how do I fix this? Thanks in advance.

Sounds like the server is overloaded which is common with Brinkster free accounts.

Have a look round for a decent paid web account.

Also, If people have avatars or pictures in their posts or sigs that are hosted somewhere else, it could be waiting for them to be retrieved. If the other place is having a server problem, it can cause the situation you described.

Lead me not into temptation... I know the short cut, follow me.

Thanks for the replies.

I still have the timeout problems. The worst part of it all is...when  I am trying to post a message or reply, it will time out and my message is gone forever. I have learned to hit the stop button first before posting any messages.

I also noticed that the time out problem only occurs on certain browsers/ computers. The problem does not occur for all. One computer on my home network never times out, while others always do. Now all my computers have the same browser settings as the computer that does not time out, yet the problem still occurs.

Does this problem have anything to do with the code? Is it a browser setting?

Dpyers...I thought the same thing about images and avatars, but even when I first uploaded the files to create my forum- no images, not even new posts yet, it would still timeout.  So I'm in a bind! Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

The timeouts are a fact of life with Brinskters free accounts.

Brinksters free accounts are just for tasters in the hope that you will upgrade to a full paid account. This means that they cram far to many sites on their free server leading to timeout problems like what you are experincing.

If you look for a decent paid hosting account you will find that these timeout issues will disapear.

You can get a hosting account from Web Wiz Guide that workout as little as £3.35 per month, with Web Wiz Forums pre-installed and you shouldn't get the timeout issue again. For more info see the Web Hosting link in the left hand menu or:-
