OK, I know that a new version of the forums has been released.  However, I am NOT ready to upgrade yet.  As such, I need some assistance with version 6.32 (or at least a pointer in the right direction).

On my production server, I have turned off the Spam Configuration completely.  The reason is that people were complaining that the lock out was too harsh.

Well, it didn't do anything.  The lockout is STILL there.  I changed the Spam settings, but they're STILL in place!  I have no idea why the forum isn't honoring my changes!  It doesn't matter WHAT I set it to, it's always doing the same thing.

I tried the same thing on my pre-production server, and everything seems to be recognized.

So, basically, I have NO IDEA why this is happening.

Try upgrading to version 7 as the spam filter works in a different way on that version.

I can't - as far as I can tell, there's no Version 6 to Version 7 SQL Server conversion tool.

Further, I'd REALLY have a need to run both versions concurrently so that service to my users won't get cut off.

I have one or two small customizations (my site user registration also registers you for the forum), so I have to redevelop that - which is no big deal, but I'd have to make sure that people could still use the site in the mean time.

So, my difficulty here is:

1.  The table names are all the same.  It prevents me from running both versions, as I get a SQL server DB, not DBs with my hosting package (maybe if I beg...)

2.  A conversion utility that I develop would have to work off of some sort of backup, or temp tables since I can't just plop the new forum out there.

3.  The conversion utility would have to be perfect the first time, or I've hosed all of my data.  That, or recovery would be lengthy.  Either way, I don't think I know enough about version 7 to know how to develop a conversion program.

Let me ask this:  Is the DB STRUCTURE the same as in Access?  Like, I could maybe make an Access DB with linked tables to SQL, and run the conversion utility?  What does the conversion utility do?

4.  While I'm converting, I'd essentially have to turn off some pretty darned active forums.

5.  While I'm converting, I'd have to have people register for the forums seperate of the site (hey, that's my problem.  I know.)

Now, man - I know that these forums are developed and given away for free - just asking for donations.  And asking for something is like begging on the streets.  But if you have some suggestions, or can point me in the direction of someone that's upgraded to version 7, SQL successfully...  Any help would be good.

1. In version 7 the table and stored procedure prefixes are kept in variables in the common.asp files, just change these for each forum you run and you can the run multiple intances from the same SQL server database, so you can run version 6 and version 7 form the same SQL srever database.

5. In version 7 you can suspend new poeple from sign up from the admin area.

Also check the mods forum for some SQL server upgarde scripts, I beleive that there are some available.

Awesome.  You've totally pointed me in the right direction.

YOU ROCK.
