    Posted: 19 January 2006 at 12:09am
Hi,

I have a problem with enter key when used in rte.

I have searched the forum, but there is no definite solution and said that it may be give some unwanted results sometimes.

Everything is ok but the rte that i integrated to my site, always gives two break lines when enter key pressed.

I mean not like the old version and not sometimes, everytime the enter key used it gives 2 break line spaces.

How can i solve this issue?

Thanks...

This only happens in IE and is becuase Microsoft have writen the built in RTE features on IE to do this.

In IE if you hit enter it places a <p> tag in giving a double line break, unless you do SHIFT->ENTER in which case it will put in a <br> tag.

In the latest version of the RTE I have created some javascript that lisens for the ENTER being pressed in IE and instead of the <p> tag inserts a <div> tag.

This works for most things, but I am starting to find a number of issues when using this within the forum and may have to drop it from the forum inorder for posts with QUOTES to display correctly.

But here i wonder why you decided to put a <div> tag instead of a <br> tag?

And for now, do you have any temporary suggestion for this problem?

Thanks...

The <div> tag is used instead of a <br>, which I would have rather has used, becuase if you use the <br> tag things like ordered lists, tables, tab spaces, etc. don't work as IE sees them as part of the same block.

You can disable the one line spacing and use IE's default settings by dsiabling it in the RTE_setup.asp file
