Topic: help with browser tweak Posted: 11 April 2006 at 12:56pm |
can anyone tell me a quick tweak to stop PDF files automatically opening in browser.. rather it should ask the enduser where they would like to download and save the file..
i am realizing that automatic opening of PDF file in IE is not safe..one can link a virus infected file on there webpage to spread it..

Somewhere along the line the user selected that they wanted pdf's opened instead of being propted to open or save as. Not a good idea to screw with a users preferred file handling behavior. Down right arrogant in fact.
If it's on your own machine and you want to fix it, fire up explorer and go to tools}File Types. Then select PDF
There's a check box there to select if you want to display the Open/Dave As dialog box for this file type.
Turn it on and the next time you download a pdf, you'll be prompted to Open/Save As and asked if you want that to be the default behavior.

Nope, you said you wanted to save instead of open. If you want to do both though, I don't know how to do it. SFAIK, the file types can only be set to one action for view, open, and edit.
