i try to enable iis on my xp pro unsuccessfully.
while installing the option from cd there are missing files such as staxmem.dll and others.
may be th cd i use is not the one with which it was installed originaly (as a matter of fact i received no cd when i bought the computer)
is there a way i can activate iis without the cd?

It sounds like your PC came with a limited install of XP, first make sure it's deffinatley an XP Pro CD and not a home version. I occasionally receive errors when installing from the CD but usually clicking ignore enough times allows it to continue.

Sometime on pre-installed systems all the files will be available through the "i386" folder.

I'm pretty sure it's that as i had this problem once, unfortunatley i cant double check for you as i'm currently using Vista, hope it helps.

Do you have Windows XP with SP1 or SP2?
If you have the XP Pro setup CD:
- Locat the i386 folder, open it
- Check and see if you can find about 5 files with names starting with IIS
these files include IIS.DL_, IIS6.CAB, IIS.IN_, etc...

P.S. the files inside the i386 folder are ordered alphabetically, so scroll down till you get to the letter i, etc...

Can you see those files?

Sounds like this is an XP home CD then. Home version doesn't include IIS

As stated by Info_Tech,
In the XP CD's 'I386' folder there are roughly 20 files including one CAB folder named 'II6.CAB'.

If they are not there then i'm afraid it is not an XP PRo CD.
