 What does my site have to contain in order to acquire stickyness and therefore: traffic? Help me gather a list of requirements please.

Really depends on the area you are considering. On General terms you can have your website based on:

Great Content--CONTENT IS KING
Great Design Layout
Easy to navigate
Not much of flash or Videos--its annoying incase it takes long to load
SEO
Create a forum or discussion board, etc on your site that will generate opinion and help ensure  people come back again and again.

Maybe someone on the forum will add to this list

First, have a good website with content that people want to read. Keep it fresh.
Then submit it to the search engines and directories. Build links from other relevant sites, too.
Use appropriate social media to let people know about it. Install Google Analytics and keep track of what works and what doesn't.
