Topic: 2 quick questions Posted: 01 September 2004 at 6:43am |
Hi,
I have a dell inspiron laptop. I recently moved into rental accomodation which has no telephone line installed in the house, therefore i am unable to connect to the internet. Is there any other way to connect to the internet without using a telephone line from my laptop? If anyone has any information could you post it please.
My second question is, i am looking to purchase an external CD-R drive for my laptop, any views on the best one to buy?

1) Most mobile phones allow GPRS which is internet for phones. Or the
newer phones can connect with a cable to your laptop to access the main
internet. Or you could use satellite broadband. You could also
invesigate wheather there is a community WiFi network in your area.
2)Find one you like and then do a search for reviews on it on google.

You won't get great speed with an external unless you have USB2 or FireWire on your laptop, so check that first.

What about an internal CD-R, any ideas of a good one?

Dell should have swappable CD-R for the front bays of the Inspiron .

If you're going to go for internal, I'd go for a DVD writer. LG has well priced units, but I don't think there are many for laptops. If you build your own connections and case, you can probably swing it.

www.pcmag.com usually has comparison reviews. You might want to search there for "external"
