Got these graphs from my (not so genial) Host.

Is there anyway to cut down on this Bandwidth ? We have cut the Database size down (it hovers around the 20Mb size) but still using far too much. Or is it all due to the amount of visitors to the site ?

FYI - The days without any usage are when the hosts crash / knock off the site !!!

how busy is your site, and do you have a link so i/we can see what maybe adding up the bandwidth.

how many users do you have on the site in general at any given time.

also make sure/check the logs to see if any hot linking is taking place.

The size of the database won't matter as users are not downloading the database.

Bandwidth is how much of data is sent to your users browser, in the form of web pages, images, and any download files you may have on your site.

To cut bandwidth you need to cut the file sizes of pages, images, and downloadable files.

Make sure that all your images you have are compressed and that page sizes are not overly large. If you have downloadable files try and place them on different servers.

images typically eat up many, many times more bandwidth than text. Use the admin pages to limit the size of images that people can post.

Lead me not into temptation... I know the short cut, follow me.

Looking at the bandiwdth graphs again they have big peaks with other days hardly anything reguistering at all.

This would suggest to me that you must have large download files on your site and on the days these are being downloaded they are eating up all your bandwidth.

Hmmmmmm, thanks for the replies - Very interesting.

I don't actually have any downloads available - It is purely an Access version of Webwiz. Also, there are only 1 or 2 images on the site (there are however a lot of remote linked images, but I thought they didn't matter ?) If the users don't download the Database, then I wonder were all the Bandwidth is being used.

Is it possible that I could have inadvertantly messed something up (in the Database or elsewhere) that is causing my problems ?

Thank you.
