I´m abit worried about upgrading to version 9.

The thing is, I have a few users who have uploaded ALOT of pictures to my forum (running 8.05 now). And I wonder what will happens to all these pictures, if I set the limit below the amount of space they have used untill now. However, since this is not a single user, I have no idea where to put the limit.

Another question about uploaded pictures.
What will happen if a user delete a picture from his filemanager. What will happen to the message it has been posted into originally? Will it be marked with a red cross? (missing picture), or will the message be deleted as well?
Will the user be notified about the picture beeing used in a topic before deleting it?

Hmm did a test in the... ahmm, testing area Wink

Seem like removing an uploaded picture from the filemanager does not resolve in a red cross in the message it has been posted into. Thats great.. No need to worry about that one then.
However, I think there is a problem, boRg. Hitting CTRL + F5 did not show the picture. I had to exit the topic and enter it again to see the picture.

Another small problem with uploading pictures. I couln´t make use of the markers to change the size of the picture inside the message body. Is this a bug perhaps?

1) There wasn't a limit before so if in doubt I would set it sufficiently high to cover the largest existing uploader.

2) I tested and the message is not deleted but the image is. This results in a red cross...when you tested maybe the result was cached?

You´re right.. I was fooled by the lousy cache in IE, even though I´d hit CTRL + F5 Angry

This is not good, in my opinion. Specially since there may be a limit in the amount of space a user can use. This will most likely result in alot of message with red cross due to deleted pictures. Hmmm!

the option you can do is move a copy of the uploads folder outside the forum root folder, do the upgrade and slot those images back in, afterwards

Hmm okay..
It seems like I got some serious problems with my folder structure. I have 3 different upload folders (one called Images, a second called fileupload and a third called uploads). I assume this has changed due to upgrades in time (6 years using WWF).

Anyway, the problem is not that I have 3 different upload folders. The problem is, I can not put them all into one folder only. If I remove picture files from one folder, they wont show in the messages no more, even though I change the upload folder in the admin panel.
How to get them all into one folder only? (mind you, this is actually a version 8.05 question, as I´m preparing the upgrade to version 9).

Leave your existing folders named as they are so the links of images and files to postings continue to work. Members will not be able to use file manager on them anyway.

Then simply use the new upload folder and its numbered sub-folders (for each member) for all new uploads.
