    Posted: 15 January 2009 at 3:21am
Bruce, I have the newspad hosted in a subfolder of my hosting server ...
...www.myhosting.com/abc/newspad/   (just an example path)

and I have the ability to create hosting accounts on my server.

so I have a client whose domain name is www.abc.com (make up name for example only)

and I forward his dns settings to my server which directs the DNS request to the files located at www.myhosting.com/abc/newspad/

the client only sees www.abc.com/filename.asp

well when we try to access the admin section at www.abc.com/admin.asp my session for some reason is denied and am redirected to the unauthorised_user_page.htm  page.

however when i go to the fully qualified path which is www.myhosting.com/abc/newspad/  I can log in with no problem.

any suggestions? is it an IIS issue?

Wow what a strange way to create hosting accounts for your clients. This won't work as you are not really creating web sites for your clients but using URL forwarding/masking to your own website. This prevents the site from settings cookies and sessions correctly, which will course all sorts of issues like what you are seeing with anything that you try to run that uses cookies and/or sessions.

If you are requiring a multiple website hosting account so you can host your clients websites that you look for a web host that allow genuine multiple websites and not use forwarding to point extra domains to a single website. This would prevent the issue you have.

Hi Bruce, it is not url forwarding/masking.

I actually change the dns records for the domain name to point to my hosting server.
the server (godaddy deluxe hosting account) receives the request and in IIS looks for the
virtual website of the domain name.

so it a legitimate website and hosting solution.

I will PM you the actual url's and explanation of problem and you can see whats going on.

The way you are doing it using DNS to point to a virtual website on your own website is a form of URL masking. This is why you are getting the problems with sessions and cookies.

Also Web Wiz NewsPad Premium Edition will not run on GoDaddy servers. GoDaddy is listed as one of only 3 windows web hosts that do not support our software due to the way they have their servers setup.

With web hosting it's a case of 'you get what you pay for'. Cheap web hosts like GoDaddy are cheap for a reason.

thank you bruce  very helpful. I think I will look around to host this application on another hosting server.

where is the list of recommended web hosts to host at?

I immediately thought of your hosting so I called your support phone and I think it is after hours (kind of a turn off for me).

Thats one of the benefits of godaddy you get 24hr support and can usually get the basic questions and issues resolved on the first level of support,

however Ive had bad experiences with them when it comes to development so yes, i understand their lack of flexibility with their servers etc...

thank you!

May I just say oldgym that Web Wiz Hosting has certainly been beneficial for me and others I know personally. Having a non-answering phone might be an issue but, we all have to have a rest sometime Wink

Bruce offers great hosting packages and I know I might sound like I'm trying to "sell" his business, but I find intergrity, honesty and helpfulness far better than the "bigger competitors" who seem to employ muppets at call centres around the world

You can search for lots of hosts who promise you the earth but you usually end up with a bucket and spade so you can do it yourself LOL

I want to support bruce and the webwiz brand as much as possible.

I just feel bad because a couple years ago I called his support and he picked up the phone. He sounded a bit tired and he mentioned that the company was run by him and another developer.

All that programming, network administrating, sales etc... He just sounds like he has alot on his plate. Im sure his service is darn good, but what would happen if he suddenly passed away? how would the company continue?

I will support him in other ways for example a donation, purchase more software etc...

The same could be said of any company, what if the owner passed away? Most companies continue if the owner passes away like this one would. The 'what if's' could continue. Like 'what if' there is a fire or a flood (we use multiple data centres), 'what if' a server were to break (we have multiple redundant servers on standby that can be turned on remotely in a instant), etc, etc,

More important in this present financial climate is if a company is able to survive and not go bust as many are presently doing with very little notice to customers if any at all. Web Wiz in this regard is financially secure and remains in profit and still growing at a rate of 100% per year on the web hosting side with all our servers and equipment fully owned by us with no monies owned. In the last 2 years since you last phoned Web Wiz have invested between $25,000 and $35,000 in equipment and software for web hosting.

You should also look at backups systems which most hosts do not provide. All our servers are fully backed up each night and there are also online tools for you to make your own website and database backups. So moving away to a new host should be very quick and easy.

Phone support is only available during office hours to keep costs down for customers. However ticket support is available outside these times. Our servers are also all monitored 24/7 at 30 second intervals from off-site locations. The data centre is manned 24/7 365 days per year, if any of our servers or services go down then engineers are paged immediately by the off-site monitoring stations to begin work fixing the issue, often before you would even know of a problem.

As an HP Partner all our servers are HP ProLiant Intel Quad-Core servers with at least 12Gig of Fully-Buffered server grade memory per server. Unlike many hosts that use cheap SATA drives we use redundant RAID 15,000 RPM SCSI 'hot-swap' server drives, this means that although we are unable to give you vast amounts of unlimited disk space you do get much higher performance and security of knowing that if any drive were to fail in any of our RAID arrays the disk system would continue to run.

As well as these benefits many of our packages also use dedicated application pools per site, which you would not find from most other web hosts. Those that do normally limit memory to 100MB per site, which is not enough for ASP.NET websites or high volume sites, whereas Web Wiz give you 700MB of memory per site!! By using dedicated application pools your sites are 'sandboxed' from other sites that share the same server giving better performance, stability, security and protection from other sites that maybe running 'bad code'. This is as close as you can get to hosting a website on a dedicated server from a shared hosting account.

Have a look through our hosting packages, although not as cheap as some they do offer a 'high grade' service with many features that you would not find from a cheap hosting package.
