The uploading of both files and images now includes an Animated Progress Bar that displays the percentage of the file or image uploaded as well as estimated time remaining, transfer speed, and more.

All changes are listed in the release notes located at; http://www.webwiz.net/webwizforums/kb/release_notes.asp

Thanks works great. Due to the mods you have done I have moved from the Dundas component to the ASPUpload V3 component - fine.

I note ASPUpload supports file uploads to 2GB but the limit one sets in the admin panel only goes up to 30MB...any reason?

This is due to the data type used in version 9 only allowing up to 30MB. It is much larger for version 10 which will allow uploads of up to 500MB.

Even though AspUpload supports uploads of up to 2Gig uploads of this size put allot of strain on the server. You also need to have the servers response sized altered in IIS, as by default Windows 2000/2003 only have 4MB response sizes and Windows Server 2008 has a 30MB response size. Allot of shared web hosts will reduce the response size to 2MB to reduce load on the server and prevent DoS outages coursed by hackers taking advantage of higher response sizes.

So although AspUpload in theory supports uploads of up to 2Gig, in most scenarios unless you have a modified multiple processor server you would not be able to get anywhere near this 2Gig limit without crashing the server.

Thanks for the response so we can wait for version 10.

Regarding the IIS limit I note that our W2K3 Server has AspMaxRequestEntityAllowed="204800" (200K) in the MetaBase.XML file but we can easily upload files over 2MB...see http://www.banmanpro.com/support2/File_Upload_limits.asp

Am I looking in the wrong place?

No the AspMaxRequestEntityAllowed only effects pure ASP Uploads. ASP has a request limit which is set at 200KB.

You also have a request limit set on IIS itself which for Win2k3 is 4096 KB (4MB). Many upload components don't use ASP to upload files so are not affected by the 200KB ASP request limit, however they are effected by the larger IIS request limit.

In Win2k3 you need to change the MaxRequestEntityAllowed which I think is in the machine.cofig file, but I could be wrong as it has been along time since I configured a win2k3 box for large file uploads.

Win2k8 has a maxRequestLength setting in the ApplicationHost.config file and is set much larger at 30MB and is very simple to change in this file to allow AspUpload to upload files above 30MB.

There maybe more places you need to change this but it can be quite complicated especially with win2k3. I'm prefer to use Win2k8 these days which I find easier to setup for large file uploads. It also uses allot less resources and server overheads due to the improved IIS 7 architecture, so I would advise for larger uploads to move to Win2k8 IIS 7.

There appears to be something very wrong with the upload system in the way that I am currently testing it. I will do further tests but wanted to report that:

When I try to upload a 12MB file, the forum appears to lock up and task manager is reporting high CPU usage for w3wp.exe - I have to restart IIS to get things moving again.

Note that uploads appear to work fine with a 2MB file but with the bigger upload the progress bar window does not close...

I am using ASPUpload V3, blnUploadSecurityCheck = True, maxRequestLength="4096" (default in machine.config). The forum max file size is 30MB.

I'll add more info when I learn more.
