Do I need writeacces?

Do I need write access to the forum directory if my database file is in another "safe" directory?.

I need to know because I have problems after my webhost has changed the security on my site and now my forum dosn't work.

No, you only need to have write access to the location where your Access Database is, wherever it may be. Besides that you would only need write permissions if uploads are allowed to the set folder.
