I hafta ask:
On both this site and on MadDogs Portal site, it says not to use Microsoft FrontPage.

Why?

I uploaded v6 of WWG and v2 of MadDogs portal with no problems. What's up?

Don't get me wrong, I understand that the FP "Extensions" are a bitch, which is why I can't wait for the Portal to come out. But, I use FP to upload and work on the site, and have had zero problems.

The 2000 version of FP was bad about editing code, and coding in front page which would cause problems because it replaces letters like < > with > and <

However the 2002 does not do this.

A problem I DID come across was whem importing WWG or MD's Portal. When importing a database FP automatically asks if you (the user) want a "new connection" and if you want the database placed in a different file ("fpdb" I believe). If you say you want a new connection and/or place it in the new file, then there are problems. HOWEVER, if you say 'no' to both, it works fine.

Anybody hear of any other problems? (I have already posted this on MadDogs Forum as well)

I think you have good grasp on the issue...

The main problem is FrontPage's handling of code rewriting.

If you go into TOOLS > PAGE OPTIONS and then HTML SOURCE...you'll notice that there's an option for either PRESERVE EXISTING HTML or REFORMAT USING RULES BELOW...

The later is where FrontPage will do all sort of funky things with your code.

2002 is better in this respect but you should be able to get away with it in 2000 if you turn off source reformating...

in other words, as long as "preserve existing html" is activated, I should be fine for the most part

anybody know of any other issues I need to be aware of?

In FrontPage you can right-click a file name and choose 'Open With...' and open the file with Notepad.

Then when you are finished editing just save and close the file and it is saved back to your server.

Good old Notepad won't mess with your code!
