    Posted: 18 May 2005 at 5:09pm

Hi everyone.

I am installing the Forum in my site and I am currently configurating everthing so that users can start to post in it. One of the things I would like to them to be able to do is to upload files and images, since this forum should be a kind of exchange forum.

For some reason it does not work. I configured the forum so that it uses the SoftArtisans FileUp 3.2 or above (SA FileUp), since this is what my server provider told me. He said they have version 3.32 installed. I was hoping to find out if I could upload a image here, but this function is not enabled in this forum (understandable), nore in the test forum (witch is strange).

What happends in my forum is that after having selected the image (or file, zip for example) y clic on "OK", then Ok again in the window that warns me that I should whait untill the upload is finished, and after that the uploading window goes blank, after a while the page becomes the tippical IE error page.

So, now I don't know what happens. All directories are created and well configurated (this means: directory "uploads" exists).... Does any one have a clue on what could be happening????

you say tipical IE error page.

please make sure HTTP friendly errors messages are turnerd off and show us the actual error.

note 4004 (page not found) and 500 (error) are very simular looking

it may be your folder you are uploading to doesn't have read, write and modify permssions enabled on it.

I think you may be right... I have to check now.. for the moment I can copy the message I become, that seams to be what you are suggesting..

Microsoft VBScript runtime error '800a0046'

Permission denied

/otis/forum/functions/functions_upload.asp, line 80

So I will check permitions now. I'll tell you later.. Thanks for the help.

Well it seams like it is definitly a permissions problem. The "strUserFolderName" could not be created. I tried to chang the folders permitions with my FTP program but I gess I am doing something wrong because the permissions do not change. So I whent into the folder and created the "administrator" folder, since I supposed that this would be the uploads folder for the administrator. I gess it is, since after I did this, an other error occured, witch is by all means part of the same problem:

SoftArtisans.SAFile.1 error '80070005'

Creation of cached file failed. Please check the NTFS permissions for the directory path "d:\www\www159\otis\forumDEU\uploads\administrator". This directory requires Read, Write and Delete permissions by the anonymous user ( NT account: IUSR_computername ) and/or by your authenticated users.Access is denied.

So I gess I will have to resolve this permissions problem and then it should work. Thanks again, and if I manage to change the permissions and it does still not work you will hear from me again.. Smile

With a Windows web server you can not change permissions by FTP (you can only do this with Linux), you need to contact your hosting company and get them to change the permissions.

Yes, I realized about that after I tried to do the same thing with the windows explorer and a message saing that the "server does not support changing file permissions" appeared.
So now I am writing to my server administrator (who is not verry klever since I tryed to resolve this problem with him before I wrote my problem in this forum) and I hope they can give me a solution.

Thank you very much dj air and -boRg-, hopefully I will have no more problems.

Hi,
I know this question may be very stupid. We are using webwiz on Sql.
We are having this same problem , with same problem
Microsoft VBScript runtime error '800a0046'

Permission denied

/otis/forum/functions/functions_upload.asp, line 80

I have understand also that I have to change permissions. But here comes to stupid part?
How will I change permisssions, can you tell me (to a dummy) step by step ?

Thanks for your time.

you need ot do it from admin level.. if your the host/ own server you can do it. else you may have to get your host to do so for you.

i believe people that use webshell are able to do it though that also.
