Replacing code

ok well i was creating a forum code system and i came across a problem. when i use the [*code] tag it creates a table for me but when i go in to edit the [*code] tag it shows the table and not the code. i know i need to replace the table but with [*code] but when i tell it to replace the tr and the td in leaves lines in my text area is there a way i can get around this like make it so it removes those lines?
