Now.. I know, there has been alot of questions about upgrading forums from different versioner.  But whenever I see a topic about upgrade, it´s all about the database. My question, what about the rest of the forum?

The thing is. I´m running MsSQL version 7.9 on my server. Right now I´m planning a huge server upgrade (from win2k server to win3k server. Totally new soft as well as hardware), and in this upgrade, I have thought about upgrading the forum as well. I have yet to decide wether it´ll be MsSQL og MySQL in the furture, but as far as the database goes, I think there are enough topics about upgrading this LOL

But I cant seem to find any topics about how to upgrade the actual forum.
I run a rather big forum here with 700+ users and, pictures and stuff. I could really need some good advices as how to go from version 7.9 to the latest final release, which is very close now according to boRg.

Is the correct way, to copy my forum (7.9) to the new server, extract all the files from the new version directly onto the old, overwriting whatever there is to overwrite, (And then do database upgrade afterwards) ?

I know this will result in mods will no longer be installed, and also the language files will have to be modified afterwards. But this I can handle.. I´m just concern if this is the correct way of doing an upgrade of the forum.

The best way to do this is:-

1. Delete your old forum
2. Backup your version 7 database
3. Run the database upgrade tool
4. Upload Web Wiz Forums version 8 to the web server
5. Test forum and reset forum permissions

But what about all those pictures which has been uploaded to the old forum? They are, as far as I recall, located in one or two subfolder, (going way back from version 6.xxxsomething I cant remember now) and not in the actual database.. Or am I wrong?

All i did was backup the 'Uploads' folder and then drop it into the Ver8 folder after install...

All pictures, files, avatars etc work as normal.
