I use the 7.97 version.

Since upgrading there is a dropdown box above the  text box for replies and new topics.

It is labeled as "mode:"  with 2 options, Prompt or Basic.

What is that?  It doesn't appear to do anything that I can see.  But it has been bugging me because I don't know what it is!

This has been in the basic editor for many years.

When you use the basic non WYSIWYG Editor, if you select Prompt, when clicking the 'Bold' etc. buttons a prompt box is displayed in which you can type text you want in bold.

In basic mode you don't get this and BBCodes are placed directly into your post.
