I have a user that is having a problem trying to login to the forum. He logs in, he then gets a login is successful but when he is returned to the forum automatically using IE6 he is still shown as a Guest.

I have got hime to delete all cookies manually but no success. I have deleted him as a user and created him again from the administrator menu, logged in myself as him and then logged out and that works ok but he still can't login himself. His IE settings all seem ok.

Any suggestions?
regards
Ian

It could be that this user is changing IP address to a different IP class as he navigates around the internet.

Check that the user is not using IP masking or multiple proxy servers that are continually changing his IP address.

I've got the same problem.  I run two registered forums from the same web server.  On one, I log-in just fine.  The other, I get the exact same issue as ibaker.  I've also logged-in here just fine.

I also have reports from a couple users who cannot log-in with the same issue.  We are not changing IP addresses, and my server sertainly is not.

I tried Firefox and IE6.  I also tried restarting IIS to no avail.

I cannot administer one of my forums until I can log-in.

You may have a corrupted file so first try reuploading all the files again.

If you still have problems, it could be that your server has issues holding the ASP session, due to Application Pool setup or server issues.

If this is the case edit the file 'functions/functions_session_data.asp' in notepad and set the forum to use the database to store sessions.

I set "Const blnDatabaseHeldSessions = True" and restarted IIS, just in case, but that didn't help.

I found that I can log-in on a different PC.  However, I'm hesitant to believe that the problem is client-side because it fails on both firefox and IE6.  Also, I can log-in to other forums running on the same server.

I'll try replacing all the files as you suggested.

Fixed!!

Since my server runs multiple forums, I had to change the server's local variable prefix as-per your post here:

I can log-in just fine now.

You may also want to change the cookie prefix as well, just to make sure all your forums run independently.
