login/cookies problems?

hey folks
 
i have an old site on v7.9 and am considering the bothersome task of upgrading (i have some mods on it...)
and am wondering - on 7.9 i had/have many issues regarding logging in and out, that it doesnt always work properly.
 
Are folks experiencing this on v8 as well?
 
Its a Jodo site, so i am sure a lot of you are familiar with their setup.

I've a forum running (latest version) with some 80 members. This works fine, but for two members that have problems to login. They have registered alright and could login in the past, but not today. Something, somewhere must have changed - maybe IE v7? They get an error message saying that they should allow cookies. In trying to reproduce this problem, I blocked all cookies on my browser. But the funny thing is that even then I could login. So I wonder, is this really a cookie problem?

Version 8 is much better than version 7 as cookies are not required to login in version 8 and you can even use the forum with cookies completly disabled in your browser.

However, some users may experience issues if they have cookies enabled but IE's cookie cache has become corrupted. To fix this the user needs to delete all cached internet files then delete all cookies from the Internet Options page on their systems.

Also sometimes firewalls can course issues.

Thanks for the input guys.
I understand i'm in a pickle - cos its still v7.x - i have some mods, which is why i havent upgraded yet - but its on the books. anyway, i have received reports from quite a few folks about this issue, and one cant always explain to folks to delete files, cookies etc...
 
i hope to v8 up soon, and then it will hopefully be solved.
