Can I use an existing SQL DB?

The installation instaructions says to use an empty DB. What would happen if I use a DB that is being used by non-forum functions as well. Would it overwrite all the tables, etc that are presently on the DB?

Basically, what I want to do is create tables, etc. for the forum on a pre-existing SQL DB but I want to leave everything else intact. Is that possible?

That is fine, you can use an existing DB. It is unlikely that it has duplicate names...
