Hi
   can anyone help me with this error name?

Server Error in Forum Application
An error has occured while connecting to the database.
Please contact the forum administrator.

Support Error Code:- err_mySQL_db_connection
File Name:- common.asp

Error details:-
Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers
[Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Data source name not found and no default driver specified

I am new to this TIA

The error means that the myODBC 3.51 database driver is not installed on the server.

Make sure the server meets the requirements to run the mySQL version which is an IIS web server running mySQL 4.1+ and the myODBC 3.51 database driver.

Thanks for the reply I have the driver on my system and as far as I know it is enabled Does the driver have to be on the isp's server ( in my case 1&1 ) and if so how do I upload it? Unfortunately the database that is configured on the server isn't clear what version it is 1&1 are very unhelpful in their rsponses I am very much groping in the dark TIA

The database driver needs to be installed on the web server by the web host.

1 & 1 do not have a good reputation, their support sucks, so maybe best to look for a decent web host.

If you get the error then it looks like they have not installed the driver on the server, often 1 & 1's servers are setup different so different users have different problems.

Check also it is mySQL they have and not SQL Server, if you have SQL Server you need to download a different version of Web Wiz Forums.

Thans for the prompt reply 1&1 don't have the MY SQL database It is the SQL database that is supplied One more question do I need the driver installed on the server with the Web Wiz forum that is compatible with SQL? It looks like the driver isn't on their server

The error message you have is from the mySQL version of Web Wiz Forums. Looks like you are trying to install the wrong version.

You need to download and install the SQL Server version of Web Wiz Forums. The driver is part of the OS with SQL Server so once you have the correct version it should install without to much trouble.
