Databases are upgraded automatically when you upgrade the engine.

If you don't have control of the server upgrade, then you can use DTS if you can access the old and new server to upgrade your databases.

There have been many, many posts made throughout the world...
This was one of them.

Or just use the database export tool in access to export from one SQL srever database to another SQL server database.

Thank you guys, we will try this way.  Yesterday looking on the new version we realized that there's some files changed already also the database,(our update is from 6.34 to 7) we have and SQL 2000 and don't want to loose our old topics or problems with the forum functions, that's why I ask about a migration tool.

Thank you, i'll let you know if  work...

My name is Santiago, I'm, working with Hanka on upgrading her forum. I ran a SQL COmpare on the DBs and there is quite a difference in structure. As far as I could tell there is a file that creates the tables for you,  msSQL something.asp. As far as I can tell this just creates the DB for the new structure (v. 7) but does not move the data for your old forum.

As far as DTS goes are you telling me I have to create a package to migrate each and every table? IF so do you have a field map?

Thanks,

Santiago

Hang on a tick. You've want to:
1) Move your database from SQL 7 to SQL 2000
2) Upgrade your WebWiz forum from 6.34 to 7.

These are two different steps and I would do them separately.

Step 1 (Moving database from SQL7 to SQL 2000)
Use DTS or whatever tool, to simply move / upgrade your existing database from the SQL 7 to SQL 2000 platform. This will keep the same database structure and you can continue to use WWF V6.4 with the SQL 2000 version of your database.

Step 2. (Upgrading WWF from 6.34 to 7)
Yes there are structural changes to the database. I believe there are migration tools available, so someone may be able to help you out with that. Try a forum search on this topic.

Cheers,
Andrew
