Topic: Snitz to Web Wiz Posted: 21 October 2007 at 6:45pm |
Hi,
I have been using Snitz for sometime as it worked on the server I was using I have now changed servers. The cdate did not work on the old server thats why I had not been using Web Wiz. But now I have changed to a new server, does anyone know if it's possible to import the forum topics and posts from Snitz portal. I have imported the usernames and passwords with the tool that came with Web Wiz but since a lot of traffic comes because of the posts I would be good to import the posts.

Hello, I was wondering if there are any migrating scripts for v9 out there? I am running Snitz on GoDaddy using MSSQL and would like to switch to WWF, but I haven't been able to find an easy route.

Before you even try importing posts, you should know that Web Wiz Forums will not run on GoDaddy. They are 1 or about 3 web hosts who's servers do not support the software.

Thanks! I was wondering if GoDaddy lets me backup my MSSQL data - could I in theory sign up for WWF Hosting and important this file in order to migrate to WWF?

The Sntiz database would have a completely different schema, I wouldn't even want to try migrating posts across to a different database schema, not without a good few weeks of spare time and I wouldn't recommend doing it. I think you are stuck with Snitz.

One fellow I know has a way to work around this..... he keeps the old data on another server, it's locked. Folks can get to it, search, read, etc. but if they want to discuss or comment or add to, they do that in the NEW forum he has. After several months, he archives the posts to the old location. It's the same forum software on each location, but he's using the old as a depository for reference, and the new for new posts. He found that easier than migrating the old data into his new forums (* neither are WWF software, it's all yabb which I hear is all text files....)

It's due to the way their servers are setup. The follow9ing page lists all those Windows web hosts that do not support Web Wiz Forums due to their servers and/or network setup. Unsupported Web Hosts
