	I don't know whether it is a valid thing to do it this way. I want to take away read access to the guests. Is it possible to create a group for all the bots, let's say Bots and giving them access to crawl the site or read through the pages.

	It wouldn't be a simple as that, you would need to edit the forums code to do this, and it may not be a simple task.

	Also, the problem you have, is that if the Search Engine Robots can view the pages, anyone can. Either by changing their User Agent to appear as a robot, or by simply viewing the cached page from the Search Engine. So it wouldn't be very secure, so if there's something you want to hide from the public, it wont be hidden.
