Is there any need for a portal system with wwf v9+ these days?

It seems most people are just using free hosted solutions these days. I have been trying to decide to make one or not.

I have gotten the "OK" from the big guy for a free version this time.

A Free version would be great.

Especially as with the Free WWF I hope that it has all the features for a small community I need for now.

Anyway, thanks for your effort.

To be honest, I've never been a fan of portals, as all they are to me is a way of showing forum information in a different layout than the forum itself...

However, it could be nice to have a portal which allows extra pages to be added, so it acts as a main website, with small bits of forum information to lure people to it.

Does that make sense at all??

AKA a Content Management System.

That would be one of the main goals for the new portal.

I'm bored so i made up a small list of things that i want to add to the portal system.
  • Add multi-skin support (super easy)
  • Add multi-language support (i've done it in the past, its pretty easy to do)
  • AJAX many parts of the forum including:
    • Instant PM notifications
    • Buddy Came online notification
    • Instant Post Edits (no page refreshes)
    • Instant Quick Replies (no page refreshes)
    • Latest Forum Posts AJAX refresh
    • Shoutbox with a pop up User to User chat
    • AJAX Uploads in the Editor
  • Add a nice AJAX Image Gallery
  • Add a Content Management System for pages
  • Search Engine Friendly links
All of those features are very simple to do. I already have the scripts coded from other projects i have done so all i need to do is recode them to intergrade into WWF.

Also with what i have done so far (www.madhosting.net) is using a new Core system i've been working on. All the custom things ive added (the design minus the WWF design) is completely HTML template driven and modular based. So its super easy and really nice because everything is a seperate module that is controlled by the core. Also most of the hard things are simplified to make it easier and faster to code addons.

Also, i did this design a few months ago that i might use for an extra skin. Its 100% CSS/XHTML Smile
