Topic: Horizontal scrollbar in Firefox Posted: 08 April 2018 at 11:27am |
G'day everyone,
I am in the middle of setting up WebWiz on my site to replace home-brewed forums which are too old now to keep adding new features to. One of the things reported to me by my test team is that the Quick Reply text box at the bottom of each thread shows a horizontal scrollbar for Firefox users rather than word-wrapping.
Is there a quick fix available to get rid of the scrollbar? I've done a search on the 'Net and have failed to locate any suitable information.
I should add, after checking, the same scrollbar appears in all browsers bar IE and Edge. It is preferred that the scrollbar is not there.

I am typing this reply in Firefox and not seeing this issue and longer lines are being word wrapped.
I have also checked in the lab with the latest version and can not replicate this issue in Firefox.
I am therefore wondering if the person in your test ream has a plugin running in Firefox which is causing this issue.

We can no replicate the issue here and not heard of anyone else reporting this issue.
Have you made modifications to your forum?

Hullo again,
The only changes made are in the CSS file (colours, fonts, etc). The rest is original.
I am on V11.10. Would simply upgrading to V12 be enough to fix it? I notice that these forums don't suffer the issue.

I suspected that it might be a CSS issue and as you have made changes to the CSS file this does confirm my suspicion.

Okay, I will put a copy of the default CSS file back and then make each change again, one by one, until I find the modification that causes it. Should I manage this I'll report back for future reference.
Thanks for your help.

Okay, I've found what is causing it. To fit the forums in with the 'corporate style' of the parent site I have introduced a fixed width into the BODY of the forums. When this width is inserted into the CSS it causes the scrollbar to appear in the text box. The fixed width is essential for us, so is there a known workaround?
