Can anyone point me to an article which summarises the two against each other?  Tried google, just get a whole bunch o junk

or can anyone tell me?

Apache: What you call a real web server, more developed than IIS.

IIS: Runs ASP better, better for microsoft technologies.

You may have to wait a little longer to findout how IIS6 compares against Apache on real world web servers under load.
