    Posted: 16 June 2003 at 2:06pm
I'm sure that there is something I'm missing out - I downloaded 7.01, copied the files to my IIS server, modified the common.asp files so that I am pointing to my database (access 2000).  Once all is setup, I can logon, create new users, etc.. but the "new topic" buttons do not appear.  I'd be delighted to just be a stupid newbie and to have overlooked something very simple.  Can anyone help, please?  Using the Admin window, I can create forums, but I never see the new topic buttons.  At first I thought it might have been the Invision skin I applied, but after several reloads I still get the same behavior even with a fresh copy.

One other thing - it was necessary to modify the common.asp in an odd way - rather than being able to point to the virtual directory location, I needed to be explicit in the strDbPathAndName section (below)

strDbPathAndName = "/inetpub/wwwroot/fpdb/wwForum.mdb"

*sigh*  Thanks in advance for any help!

Here's another wierd thing - 6.34 works like a dream - so that would sort of rule out domain issues like NT/2000 security, yes?

It sounds to me that you may have not setup the permissions properly and that you have set it up so you don't have permission to post new topics in the forum.

Have a look at the text in the bottom of the forum and see if you have:-

You can post new topics in this forum

Written in the list of permissions in that forum, if not go to the admin area and check both generic forum permissions and group permissions.

No - there's nothing like that.  As I said, 6.34 is working well, so maybe I'll just stick with that.  Seems a shame.  Is there a process to upgrade to 7.01?
