Topic: problems running under IIS6 Posted: 24 July 2003 at 6:04am |
|
I've just upgraded my Windows 2000 Server (IIS5) to Windows Server 2003 (IIS6). I can no longer access my Web Wiz Forum from any PC other than the actual server machine itself. All I get is a "the page cannot be displayed - HTTP500 internal server error" error in Internet Explorer. I'm assuming this might have something to do with the increased security in Windows Server 2003. Anybody else seen this problem before and found out how to fix it?

Turn off your friendly errors in IE first so you actually see what is going on.

This is what it says:
Microsoft JET Database Engine error '80004005'
Operation must use an updateable query.
/common.asp, line 403
and a new twist: it seems to work fine from PCs outside my LAN (ie. over the internet).

My guess is that the IUSR_<machine_name> account has the necessary permissions on the folder containing the database - this is the account users outside your lan are probably mapping to.
However inside your Lan, perhaps you are authenticating under a different account which does not have those permissions.

How can I get the server to assume all connections are anonymous (for this site)?

might wanna try turning on/off 'enable integrated authentication' in tools -> options -> advanced in Internet Explorer.
if that doesn't work post the specifics off your LAN, IIS settings and web application

Also, make sure that you have Anonymouns Access as the ONLY method of authentication in your IIS settings for your web application.
From memory you can enable anonymouns and integrated.

I've set the web server to anonymous authentication only, but it still doesn't work. I can't find this option to turn off integrated authenticaion in Internet Explorer. Any more ideas?
Further update: it works in Mozilla, but I get the database error mentioned above in IE6 or Avant Browser.
