hi i am having some probs with installing the forum.

i have edited the 2 common.asp files and have moved the mdb file to aa diff folder but it still wont work.  this is the error that i get

ADODB.Connection.1 error '80004005'

SQLState: IM002
Native Error Code: 0
[INTERSOLV][ODBC lib] Data source name not found and no default driver specified

common.asp, line 232

i have the mdb file in a folder called asp, within that folder is a folder called forum. thats the default folder that came in the installer.

so the addres is www.yom.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/asp/forum

the first common.asp in the forum folder i changed to the following propeties.

strDbPathAndName = Server.MapPath("/asp/dave.mdb")

and the second common.asp to

strDbPathAndName = Server.MapPath("/asp/dave.mdb")

to let you know i have the blueyonder advanced webspace which has the following things installed.

perl

php

python

asp

shell

server side includes

program locations

file permissions

script restrictions.

Thankyou

Your paths to the database look completly wrong, for a start they would be the same in both common.asp files.

2nd you want to place the database in a folder above the root and good web hosts will provide a private or database folder for this purpose. Then to move up a directry you would have a path like:-

strDbPathAndName = Server.MapPath("../../private/wwForum.mdb")

i am a bit lost now!

i moved the .mdb file to a folder in

www.yom.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/asp/forum/admin/database

there is a folder on my ftp called _private but i cant upload to it.

i then edited the 2 common.asp files.

the one thats in the main forum folder is set to this.

strDbPathAndName = Server.MapPath("asp/forum/admin/database/wwForum.mdb"

and the one in the admin folder is set to this

strDbPathAndName = Server.MapPath("asp/forum/admin/database/wwForum.mdb"

now i have these paths set from the main folder in my ftp to the file locations.

i am pretty lost to be honest.

the new error message is

ADODB.Connection.1 error '800a0bb9'

The application is using arguments that are of the wrong type, are out of acceptable range, or are in conflict with one another.

common.asp, line 232

Blueyonder does support ASP but its  ChiliSoft ASP. webwizz aplications wont run on this system without a major code rewrite. Sorry to be the bringer of bad news.
