Has anybody ever come across a problem where after posting the forum freezes and fails to load the confirmation of post, the blue bar on status gradually moves across but nothing else happens.  To get around the problem you have to close down your browser windows and go back in.  It does post and it doesn't happen all the time.  Any ideas?

Usually when this type of thing happens it is a problem with your email settings or the SMTP server you are using.

To test disable email settings from the admin area.

It looks like this is the problem.  Is there any way around it, I have the choice between AspMail and CDOSYS but both seem to suffer from the problem.  I really need the notify option though, is their any other way around this that you or anybody knows of.  Thanks for you help on this, I was really getting down hearted.

It sounds like there is a delay in connecting to the SMTP server to send the emails.

This maybe due to an overloaded network, and overloaded SMTP server, or both.

A localhost SMTP server is always best as there isn't that delay connecting to the SMTP server.

I'm actually hosted on a resonably limited service so I have no control over that sort of thing.  I will put a support call in with my provider.  I'm gonna try some alternative methods of sending the emails see how I get on.  Thanks for your help.

Thanks for the help boRg, it was the mail server causing the hang.  I have turned this off to test and things are working great.  I put a call in with my providers but I don't think they are going to do anything about it.  Because of this I have started to trial web wiz hosting.  They are great!  In your experience whats the best mail component to use for notify and such?

its the upgrade from CDONTS, but you will have to MOD it to allow for mail authenticating.
