I gotta tell ya b0rg, this new skinning you've don't is great. It took me a while but I created a FireWorks template of all the icons in the forum_images folder (static gifs) and then created slices so they would be named the same on export. I had a little trouble with color counts on the gifs but used another tool (Thumbs+) to correct it. I exported as high quality tif out of FW and then batch processed each file to gif.
It took me all day yesterday to get this just right but it works fine.
Steps:
1) Created a large FireWorks document with a transparent matt.
2) Imported each image into the FW document.
3) Named the bitmap item to the same file name as the imported file.
4) Created a slice and named it the same as the imported file (less the ext)
5) On export, I selected export images only.
6) Since FW would not let me used the "exact" option because of the high color count, I exported as TIFF32 which retains the transparencies.
7) Created a new folder and let her run.
8) In Thumbs+ I simple batch converted from Tiff to Gif retain file names.
9) Uploaded the files to the server and it worked flawlessly.
Caveat: sometimes when importing gifs with transparent backgrounds, the actual image dimensions are lost. Usually not a big deal except for the RTE icons. I simply created the slices this the same dimensions as the file (20x20) and imported the icons centered under each slice. Worked like a champ.
Then this morning, I got an idea... opened my FireWorks file... selected all and converted to Alpha. Now my color count is low enough, I exported the slices as gifs and uploaded. It took about 60 seconds to create all new black and while icons.
