I've been looking at the SmarterMail product that you use for email. I can see how to connect for IMAP but I'm interested in using it as a replacement for exchange. I'd like to connect using outlook and have access to calendaring etc.

The service description on your site says:

"Our Mail Servers use SmarterMail Enterprise which delivers Exchange-level mail server features with powerful collaboration tools, such as SmartPhone & Outlook synchronisation, anti-spam, anti-virus, mailing lists, advanced webmail, RSS news feed integration, event calendars, contact lists, and much more"

which suggests that it is possible.

How do I setup for outlook and smartphone synchronisation?

Thanks

If you login to your WebMail Service for the mailbox you can find the Synchronisation Centre which gives you a range of free tools that can be used for Synchronisation with Microsoft Outlook, Mozilla Thunderbird, Google Android, iPhone and others.

There is also the Exchange ActiveSync Add-on available for SamterMail Mailboxes costing £2.95 per month that uses direct push technology to automatically provide users with over-the-air access to email and collaboration items.

If you wish to add the Exchange ActiveSync Add-on to one of your SmaterMail Mailboxes login to your Client Area account and select 'Add Optional Features and Resources' from your Hosting Account page.

We are also in the final stages of testing Microsoft Exchange 2010 SP1 Hosted and hope to offer this very shortly, which would include both ActiveSync as well as Outlook 2010 client.

Just tried setting up sync to outlook using SmarterMail and it doesn't work 'cos I have a 64bit machine. Do you have any idea how far out exchange 2010 hosting is and what the pricing model will be?

Thanks

There should be no issue with 64 bit machines. How have you tried syncing Outlook with SmaterMail as there are a number of way to do it?

We hope to offer Microsoft Exchange 2010 SP1 Hosted by the end of this month (November 2010) and pricing will be around £9.95 per mailbox, although if you require a bulk amount of Exchange Mailboxes then discounts would be available.

Thanks for the info regarding Exchange hosting.

My attempt to sync outlook with SmarterMail was based entirely on the instructions given in the webmail sync setting area. I downloaded the outlook plugin and installed it. I'm running Win7 64 and Office 2010. The COM plugin installed by SmarterMail failes to load every time I attempt to load it. I have therefor not progressed as far as being able to attmept a sync.

Do you have any suggestions as to how I might fix the issue or use some other mechanism?
