For those who don't know. MS released several .NET 2.0 starter kits for use with VS2005. The starter kits were designed to demonstrate concepts, and as such are probably only about 80% towards being a viable application.
The Club Site Starter Kit demonstrates how to use the built-in 2.0 membership and role management. Unfortunately, you can only add, delete, and admin roles through VS. From the web, you can use the roles - just not create them. This is the type of stuff that may wind up being fundamental to WWF when it eventually goes to .NET.
MS has offered to extend some of their 2.0 demo products depending upon the demand from the developer community and has set up a page for people to vote on the demos they want to see extended.
The Club Site SK extension would include web-side role management, web parts, page management, and themes. All good stuff for any community oriented web site to build with even if you don't use the club site.
