I've done a straw-poll on various friends and family and the results are a little alarming!
When asked for a password a common reaction is that they don't know the password! But you are supposed to make one up I explain, but how will the computer know it is the right one they counter?!?!?!!!

As I am expecting a fair proportion of my members not to have used a forum before, I'm a little inclined to think that my sample may be a fair representation!
There are a whole plethora of parameters that they can change under settings - changing the password is dwarfed by all the other changes you can do. In fact I think I have a good idea for a modification. Only expose the ability to change various parameters as they become more experienced!
Reward them with an avatar after say 5 postings - just a thought!
