Hello i have just put up a new forum and was wondering if any one knows a good way to make it busy ? and also how does it get good stats on search engines?

Answer 2: see above (having people link to you) / pay google / wait

There are also companies around now you can pay to post in your forums to get them kick started.

Search on the web for sites which relate to your forum - email them to ask if they'd mind linking to yours, in return to a link to their site etc.

Also, find blogs which relate to your forum, and either drop the author an email or comment on some of their blogs with a link to your forum.  With a bit of luck, the author might blog about it.

start some interesting hot topics, exchange links with permission of other forum webmasters. Invite people personally through email. Widen your circle through social networking sites my myspace, facebook, etc etc.
