The VB.NET Standard Edition free giveaway is over - guess the demand was very high. Who doesn't want a free copy of VB.NET? Luckily I got a copy. :) Nice copy of Windows 2000 and three MSDN CD's came along with it. Anyone looked on eBay? People are selling their's off like hotcakes, but they aren't going for anything...If you do want to buy a copy of VB.NET avoid this version as it is NFS (Not for Sale or Resale) and you won't actually have a legal copy if you buy it off eBay. But VB.NET is really inexpensive on eBay anyways, I think a full legal package is $26 or so.
Also, I've been reading this new book I bought, Beginning ASP.NET in VB.NET and from what he is saying the compilers for VB.NET and C#.NET are included with the .NET 1.1 Framework, just not the IDE with all its drag-and-drop features...But thats an advance over the old days when you had to buy the language to get the compiler. Correct me if I'm wrong. :-)
Respectfully,
David.

Yes the compilers do come with the framework...

vbc.exe
csc.exe and
jsc.exe

Even if they weren't provided with the framework you can write your own compiler in any .net language (using the MS API) so I assume MS just thought they might as well provide them

but unless you write only classlibraries you might have a hard time writing stuff, forms will be difficult to test, position etc. I myself am compfortable with a Visual Designer for the first time, as long as I don't have to modofy the html stuff cause VS sucks at that.

FP2003 is pretty good. Different animal than previous versions. You can set up your own formatting rules for indentation, it has intellisense for html, etc.

I stay away from the little extension programs it uses and the DSN stuff, but it's great at site management.

Lead me not into temptation... I know the short cut, follow me.
