What is the easiest way to order your forum?

I would like to know the easiest way to order my forum. I have main forums and sub forums. I want to have the main forums in a certain order and the sub forums in a certain order under the main forums. But, I don't want to spend an hour updating the order of these forums by alphabetizing each section. When I update the order of the sub forums the main forums get all messed up. Without a 1.1, 1.2, 1.3 option this is very time consuming. Am I doing this wrong or what?
