Importing current forum users

Is there currently an option to import users from the current forum database and have it read the passwords with the salted information so they can be stored?.

I have tried to use the external database import option and it is getting all the information but how would it get the password correct from the password field without the salt and user_code fields to decrypt?

or am I doing something wrong?. I tried the import and then tried to modify a subscription by entering an email address and password but it wouldn't take it.

Any help on this would be apreciated
