    Posted: 16 July 2012 at 9:42am
Hello,

Everyday at least 10 members are creating account in our forum. As a forum rule, every new member has to introduce him/herself in a specific topic which they create. Since we have no force and mostly users don't read the forum rules when they enter, we, as forum moderators and admins, have to write them to do so. Of course this is an additional burden for us. I was wondering if there is a way to force new members to create a topic in a specific place. Or, can we send a automatic PM when they first login their accounts?

Thanks.

You could use the permission system to creating a starting group that only has permission to create topics in one forum.

Depending on how many points your member receive for creating a topic the next ladder group that has permission throughout your forum could be at the same number of points as a member gets for creating a topic.

This way new members can only create a topic in a particular forum, once they have created the topic in the forum they would be moved up to the next ladder group that has permission throughout your forum.

Thanks Bruce,
It works perfectly.
Is there any way to send an automatic PM to the new users for explanation?

This is also a request here... it could be even better if we have the option to notify all users when we want. Like... If we change our rules.. we could have a checkbox that users have to accept to continue to use the forum.

In regards to changing your forum rules. Starting with version 10.11, to comply with new EU laws, every time a member logs in they have to accept the forum rules by clicking a checkbox.

This may be sort of "off-topic", but I've been reading with great interest the new features, safeties, etc. in the latest versions of the forum software - and often they seem to be connected to new rules or laws either in the EU or the U.K.
Living in the states were we are often isolated from news that makes sense, I am very curious - what are these new laws or rules that govern things associated, say, with a forum like this?
I see the posts on spam, mass mailing (wish our people would get a clue but that's another topic) and now this one on needing to accept forum rules.......
I see pros and cons, but the cons are only on the convenience side to me - no more automatic log-in which lazy folks over here would cry about, however, it might force some folks to pay attention and read before they blindly agree to things they've never read or paid attention to.
Is there a summary of such laws and rules somewhere, where I could see what this is all about?
It would be especially good as we've got a growing number of members from Europe lately.
