Question:

When making a web application, is it a good idea to take the time to make it multi lingual?

Informaiton:

I'm making my own web portal system, and I plan on releasing it after I have tested it on my site. I just started last night on my second version of it (I have alread finished it, but do not plan on publishing or releasing the first version). Since it is still early in the development I was thinking about making it suport multiple languages (the user would select a diffrent language from there profile), but I don't have any need for this (at the moment), but somone how downloads the application from my may have use for it.

What is somones opinion on this?

I suggest you look at http://www.google.com/press/zeitgeist.html to decide what OS, browsers, and languages your site should be compatiable with. Since Google gets so many hits, I think it's data should be very accurate on about how many users use what.
