Hi all,

I what to develop a page which holds an image of the world. Clients can state which countries that they have been to and the countries will be displayed graphically on the world map. Now there are over 100 countries and they can be put on the world map in any amount and combination.

I think that i can do it using layers but the download page size could be huge. I have seen some pages around which are a single image containing all the relevant counties using png files. The only way that I can find in downloading a single image with all the appropriate counties on the image is to have the the image store on the server. This will mean that over 400,000 images willbe needed for every combination.

Does any on know of a better way of doing this? There has to be a better way

Thanks

Graham

Do you mean something like this? To begin with there would be a blank map with the countries outlined in black but with no other colour. Then if someone selects Spain and France by clicking the country outline. Then France and Spain would then be shown on the map having red backgrounds but then rest of the countries would still have no background colour?

If so then this could be easily achieved using Flash.

You would need to have a movie for each country.

Each movie would have two frames. Frame 1 an outline of the country. Frame 2 would be the country coloured red.

Then a transparent button over frame 1 of every movie. When the button is pressed it would goToAndPlay frame2.

To then deselect a country you could have a transparent button over frame to which would then goToAndPlay frame1.

Thanks all,

Yes I thought of using Flash but there are over 200 countries and islands in the world. I would have to create buttons and draw each country each time. Do you know of an easy way that I could use flash.

I am currently using an acrobat image of the world, editing it in Illustrator and the countries could be converte into eps which could then be imported into Flash MX. What do you think.

The only thing is the vectra detail of the world is very detailed (lots of lines & coordinated). If I remember flash can reduce the number of coordinates and lines therefore reducing the file size down. Is this true? Or can I do this in Illustrator before importing into Flash.

Thanks

GRham
