Extra fields with post

Hi all,

I'm wondering if anyone can help me with this mod to add extra fields of information to a post.

I would like to add a date field,a text field and a drop-down field to be filled out when adding a new post, to add extra sorting capabilities to the posts.

These fields/options ( for example Oldest Date First and Newest Date First) can then be added to the existing sorting options of Oldest Post First and Newest Post First.

Has anyone done this kind of thing before?
