Hi Borg!
I have made myself a list over things that I would liked to see changed or added to the next major release of the Web Wiz Forum.
I know that you have put several thousand hours on developing this forum, and I must say that it's great. It's in fact the best asp forum I have ever seen. But I'm missing some features here and there in this app too.
What I really wants to see, is a asp forum which can be compared to Invisionboard. WWF is not far from that goal, but it's still missing some more admin functions before it can be compared with InvisionBoard.
I know that you are spending your own sparetime on developing this forum, and I also know how irritating it is when users allways comes and complains about things that are "missing" in the app, but I was hoping that at least some of the features mentioned under here would find their way into the next major release of WWF. And I also hope that you would take this comments into consideration.
Here's my wishlist:
1. A better Admin layout. Something like the one phpBB, Invisionboard and Ultimate BB use?
2. Possibility to set the cookie expiration hour, from the admin menu.
3. Turn security image on/off from admin menu.
4. Add/Edit/Delete avatars from admin menu.
5. Add/Edit/Delete smilies from admin menu.
6. Add the metatag info (such as sitename, description ++) from the admin menu.
7. Turn on/off wether or not users are able to see others ip, from the admin menu.
8. View topics in threaded mode. This is a feature that I'm missing.
9. Forum install. Users is guided through a install setup before the forum is ready to be used. This wizard checks that all folders have their neccessary permissions, makes sure that you accept the license, have changed the name of the dB, adds a administrator etc.. This feature will prevent You Borg from getting questions about folder, file permissions etc. I have seen this on a messageboard from dcscripts.com
10. List topics by Message ID | Topic | Author | Last updated date | Replies | Views | Rating
11. Add more of the graphical things to a .css file.
12. Possibility to give users the ability to choose their own language for the forums.
13. Lockdown feature. This is something that this forum should have. This way only administrators should have the possibility to enter the forums. All others will see a "This forum is down for Maintance" site.
14. Registration form. Admins can choose which elements they would like to have in their registration form. This I have seen in Snitz Forums.
15. Option to show/hide the "You can/You cannot" text which is displayed on each page. I find this very annoying and it would be fine if we therefore could show/hide this thing.
16. Change the apperance of the WYSIWYG editor. I don't like the way this one functions. It can be very bandwith and performance consuming if you have a big forum. And for users with a dial-up connection it takes some time before it's loaded fully.
17. Clean up the forum design a bit. For example you could place "Posted: 03 November 2003 at 12:42pm | IP Logged" in an own cell instead of using a line bracket. On this line you could also show the printable version and email to friend options. Makes it faster to use those to options.
18. Possibility to split (divide) all the replies in a topic from each other.
19. Ability for the users to choose which of the forum categories you would like to be shown fully and which you would like to be hided. As by now, clicking on the + icon hides all the other categories, which I think is a bad solution for this function.
20. Add a skin selector. Users are able to select which skin they would like to use. Nice if you have more than one skin and would like to have the option to choose that really fast. Maybe using a javascript method to do it. That's an fast way to solve the problem. Have a folder, name it skins, place all your skins in different folders in it, and select from a dropdown list which you would like to use??
21. Possibility for admins to move/delete more than one topic at the same time. It's really boring that you have to move/delete topics one by one. It would be nice if we could choose, by using checkboxes, all the topics we wants to move/delete.
22. On admin mainpage: Display a dropdownllist with shortcuts to the most used admin options. Show board statistics. Infact something like the one invisionboard is looking would be nice.
23. Ability to create your own user-groups
I'm really looking forward to your comments on this topic. Also comments from other users would be nice to have.
Best regards
Chris
