Topic: Feature -- posts require approval Posted: 14 March 2003 at 7:44pm |
I'm sure this has been brought up before, but I don't remember what borg's input on it was.
Do you plan to develop the feature that allow admin or mod to give approval before pending posts can go on display? This would be useful for a very formal business support forum.
Thanks

exec, once you figured the approval process, it should be easy. Say, you approve posts at midnight everyday. So, inform users that their posts will be publish within 24 hr.
You would also need a page available to only admin to display ALL the pending posts with a check box next to them. You select the post as u read along.
dj air, 6.34 is very feature-limited comparing to v7, could you start working on the mod for v7?

"midnight" is just an instant. if u have a big board u would be approving posts till 6 am if u read all of em word for word at least once.

from an Admin point of view, this would be a great feature for a small forum wit like 20 members or sumfin
but from a member point of veiw, this would suck, i mean ya wanna see ya post appire automatically, straight away
not like a week later when the tread would have different posts init
also from an admin point of veiw on a forum like 500 members :O or more... it would ...

There are many forums that use this sort of thing - mostly they are for "low-use" support type forums - and yes they can be hell to manage.
The aim is usually to limit the number of repetitive posts, spam, etc.
The other time it's used is for forums where there are some "VIP" type guests who are there to assist with specialist knowledge etc - it helps them from being swamped, and is seen as a good thing to keep them sweet and around...
I think the quickest way to action this would be to have two forums - one with no "post new topics" access for the majority of users, and another with "post new topics" access, but no reply access... you'd then move the topics from here into the first one if they were viable, otherwise you'd delete them.
Might work...
